we are really proud that we had all those people beside us at the protests... but that was not even close to enough. out of about 8000 students that are currently enrolled in the university, 500/600 is only a handful... its not going to work. we need 2000+ students at least in order to continue our movement and in order for it to work.
as much as i hate to say it, we are being cornered. it is confirmed that a list of 110 students (and counting) has been made, through some kind of identification. nobody has to be a genius in order to realize that some students are helping the authority with the recognitions and identifications. if anyone hears about any of these f*cking traitors, please remember them. they will be dealt with later.
the authority has told the students to collect their passwords on the 13th/14th. it is assumed that some arrests will be made, based on a word from the IGP. we are trying to deal with the whole thing to the fullest extent of our capabilities with all our contacts, some of which have already failed. meanwhile, PLEASE, DO TRY TO KEEP A LOW PROFILE AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR FRIENDS ARE TRUSTWORTHY. we do not think that the movement will be a success in the short run, but it will, without a doubt, pave a path for similar movements in the future... not just for us, but for all the private universities in bangladesh. as for the public ones, i don't think we need to worry much about them... i believe we all know that they handle their problems very well, no matter how drastic the measures are.
you see... we are the tiniest part of a system, which is entirely made of money. needless to say that the BOG is nothing short of a huge syndicate of corporate magnates. we do have quite a few legal grounds on which we can sue them, but winning any of the suits is very unlikely. therefore, we should wait for a few days and see if we can find a way to put some pressure on the administration. if we do manage to do that, there will be a lot of options to choose from and we will proceed accordingly. we are consulting supreme court lawyers, secretaries at ministries and even ministers to find a way. from our very recent experiences, this will be very hard, but we will try our best nevertheless.
in the case that doesn't happen... please collect your passwords and go for your advising, because most parents will not approve of dropping semesters because of this whole mess, i believe. but it will be a choice for you and your family to make, of course. you can drop semesters alright, but once the higher price is settled, it is not going down... that's for sure.
if you have been supporting the protest on moral grounds only and can pay the extra amount, please do not hamper your studies. and if you have financial constraints, you can either make arrangements to transfer your credits to some other university (AIUB, BRACU, AUST or any other reputed ones)... believe me or not, things cannot be worse there. most possibly you'll get more facilities than you get at nsu, at a much lower price. the only thing you won't be getting is the nsu certificate, which for some weird reasons, bear some weight of its own.
the press conference today was shockingly and absurdly unsuccessful. if we were at point zero before it, now we are somewhere in the negative region. we didn't get to talk to the media about any of the things that are important, concerning the tuition hike being unlawful and the vandalism incident or the police attack on the students.
anyways, we are not quitting the protest yet. the protest must go on, but we need to gather more people for it. do not let the steps of the BOG get to you, because that is exactly what they want. they have bought pretty much everyone there is to buy, which i believe, they see as an investment. just think of all the money they will make once the new semester starts.
does anyone mind if i call them mother-f*cking SOBs?
the protest must go on... and those SOBs will feel sorry someday. however, it is advised that we lay off for a couple of days. we are trying to get more exposure from the media, so that we can get public sentiment and media sentiment alike in favor of our movement. if we can highlight the whole thing a little bit more than it is right now, it will be possible to attract other universities beside us. if you haven't already realized, the issue at hand is not what it was at the beginning, but much more than that. nsu being the #1 private university (!), all other private universities will look up for examples from what we do. and you know what? WE WILL SET ONE FOR THEM! they may have to go through the same sh*t with their authority someday.
that is why we cannot stop the protest. but we must proceed as a single entity, with no recognized leader and a good strategy. come on... some of the brightest minds in the whole country are with us! can't we think of something?
do not worry much about what's going to happen if we are caught and brought to book. the funny thing is... the more people get involved, the less disaster we will endure. just think what would happen if all the students protest together? :)
we are thinking about calling another press conference, with students only... but it is not confirmed yet. it may include some of the faculty members (also, not confirmed yet) and some of the relatively senior students, who have already been exposed.
please try to contact your faculty members, WHOM YOU THINK YOU CAN TRUST and try to convince them to stand beside us. if they don't want to come forward, that's okay. but make sure that they will be there if something should happen to us.
and once again... thanks a lot for all the support the protesters have provided and the courage they have shown. god forbid... but if our efforts end up in ashes, do not feel sorry. we stand for what we think is right, and that is just about the single most powerful thing you can do nowadays. we are all individuals, but one in this thing. no matter how much everybody tries to demotivate you, trust your instincts.
and don't forget to gather people while you are at it... :) the next couple of days, the protests are going to be laid off a little bit, i guess, but there is no chance in hell that we are going to yield to the injustice easily. if there are no possibilities... well, then we are f*cked. but its the optimism that pays off at the end of the day, doesn't it?
take care everyone... see you soon. and have a nice day!
and i feel for you guys.best of luck for the future at nsu.
There is a litle correction. considering 1000 students paying 3,500 every semester for the last 7 years (includes both existing and former students for the past 7 years), the total should be,
3,500Tk CDF * 3 semesters * 7 years * 1,000 students = 73,500,000Tk
But, Wikipedia mentions that there are 10,000 students in NSU as of 2009.
So, the actual figure should be,
3,500Tk CDF * 3 semesters * 7 years * 10,000 students = 730,500,000Tk
73 crore, which is almost equal to 10.65 million USD.
these guys shud be politiocians de f**kin lie so well now dont dey :@ :@ >:/
with dis article, we can now put up da real story
thank u agen
u hav infact done da most important thing needed at dis moment
I believe this would have the maximum output if forwarded to the faculties or admins. If anyone has the courage then you should forward the link to any one of the faculty of NSU who will in turn inform it to other faculties and eventually the authorities. They have the right to know what their students think of them! Come on, someone must have a faculty's mail address.....
If i were a student i would have definitely done that!
some students are trying pinching the protesters. They should think before commenting about the protest. If the tuition fee decreases then these cowards will also get the advantage.
It hurts more when our close people act like hypocrites.
this article will slap those hypocrites.
good job bro...
if pos dn publish it in our dailies.........
One thing i shuld say.... this is an awesome article. man who wrote this, i bow down to you.
Many of us have high government officials, ministers, politicians in our family. Can we take a step? Can we stand together and take this step to national level? Can we ask government to extend its hand in this issue?
As against d tuition fee what d *%&$ing service we got that also should be considered..The guardians also should be united regards these issues bcz it will be effective more and this is their money.
A press conference is immediately required to raise a public support regards this issue..
1.sacrificed permanent campus from the beginning and it saved a lot of initial investment ( if exact figure was there we could calcualte it regarding time value of money)
2.paid campus development fees since 1992 ( i saw it in face book ) and don't think that money was idle..it was invested with a high interest rate for 17 years .
3.does the tution fees increase rate suits with inflation rate ( as they said cost is increasing )
4.They introduced caution money! we know students in university life pass at least 5 years there some ppl stay more.. do u think they are gonna keep ur caution money idle? No..they r gonna invest it with high interest rate for at least 5-7 years. But u r gonna get the principal amount only.
there are many other financial issues tht can be calculated and this will show a huge deficit balance of wat u have given and wat u r getting or got
UGC should take this seriously. They should make a rule regarding not only spurring private unis abt makin own campus rather the increasing rate of tution fees must be specified.
Nsu students are paying for their own campus, own teacher , in a sense they r paying for the whole business so wheres their dividend as proud stockholders!? :S
hopefully nsu brothers and sisters are gonna overcome this situation soon and i salute them cause since 1992 they have come to the uni after sacrificing a campus, a controversy of private uni public uni debate. They did this cause they had the only intention of study and do something creative in a different way .But finally they get this which is very sad and unacceptable.
Whats the result from this protest !?!?!
Aren't we gonna get nothing after all these !?!?
Are we gonna accept it !?!?
All those people got beaten badly by the police
because of no reason, their protest were nothing ??!!
Aren't they gonna get anything ?!?!?
Its awesome... great... perfect... the true picture....
We can't stop here ! We have to move on...
If we don't do anything Money Machine BOG (Board of Governance) & and its business people will have the chance to exploit students, parents & society in many different way...
We have to stop them...
NOW WHAT WILL WE DO?WHO WILL TAKE THE REVENGE OF THIS ILLEGAL POLICE ATTACK?WHO WILL TAKE THE REVENGE OF OUR BLOOD??WHO??WHO????WHO??????
remember, it has not ended, just begun. INSHALLAH we shall make them pay for their heinous act.
NSU total students= 9000
Total sem in a year= 3
Average credit taken= 4*4=16cr
Per credi fee =4000 tk
Total rev earned=9000*3*16*4000
=1,728,000,000 (172.8 crore taka)
just through per credit fee, they earn this much money.....
now my ques.....what is the ultimate cost of our new campus, and how much the maintenance cost be????how much are they paying to the faculties.....not enough to 172.8 crore taka.....
eto taka pai, tar poro keno aro chai?????
Lojja sorom nai
Im leaving nsu next sem on a credit transfer. But ya i still can say nsu's market demand will gradually fall.
Byz..N thanx to frnd who revealed all the shows infront of the general public.
When education is seen as a "business" instead of "charity" a nation is doomed to fail. Since our politicians are not so educated and did not venture into education long enough and were not at serious with their studies in their student life as they were mostly engaged in political activities, they would never value the importance of a good and proper education. To them only "money and power" matters. Most of the owners of these private universities are business people who are motivated by "greed" and were in the back benches during their student life. So, what good can you expect?
Students at top university revolt over teaching standards
"...Some 600 students reading economics and finance at Bristol have signed a complaint arguing that the university has failed to improve its teaching since tuition fees were raised to more than £3,000 in 2006..."

So you see, it is now a global problem!
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10757...
however, while writing about burdening on the enw students you should have thought a little deeper...we all want to study in an university whose rank is in the highest position till now...but the cost matters to us as well...you guys should have covered that thing also...we - the new student - were counting on you guys that you would also think about us too...because we don't have the strength to fight at the present like you...i think you understand what i mean so i'm not going into details...
hope you get your demand fulfilled...but don't forget about us...
thank you...
suppose, nsu has 8000 students(its more than 8000).
each student on an average gives 50,000tk( average because masters students gives more money and some students take 5 courses and some students takes 3 courses).
8000 x 50,000 = 40,0000000 (40 cr)
= USD 5755395.683
40 cr per semister and 10 cr per month.
120 cr per year.
can u tell me wher wud nsu spend this 120 cr money.
4500tk in increase in per subject means 8000 x 4500= 3,60,00000.
NB: after they shift to the new campus, the rent of STR, SPZ, BTA, GMQ, English department, LEE building (architec dept.), Library, Inventory building (5 tala account building) need not to give.
But still we love "OUR UNIVERSITY".... I said 'our university', cuz it's built frm our money.. But we hate the founders and the admins, who r greedy.....
I thank 2 all of my friends who were present in the event.............
They need a lot of money. Logically::: Because, they need to buy new lands. Send their kids for another PhD to abroad. Send gift to beaurecratic government officials. Go for Hajj, Umrah. They need money. A lifetime of higher education has taught them no modesty, but self-centerness. And they come to teach us Bachelors Degree.
Pity the Mother's Day sees the old mother of these 'ODHOM' children.
The NSU BoG is just simply a group of selfish, greedy n inhumane motherf*ckers!!!!!!!!! N they proved how low they can stoop with their actions against the innocent, peaceful students.
I was there from around 12 to almost 6:30 n witnessed every atrocities of the authorities n the police. No one, if they weren't there for themselves, can even imagine what we went through all these time where we were left under the scorching summer sun in the middle of the road n then inside the STR, where hundreds of us were cramped in this unbearable heat n the f*ckin procter blocking our way to the VC's office n finally in the staircase n infront of the VC's office. We waited for hours with empty stomach for what????? To get bashed by baton charging police!!!!!!! How inhumane can these money - sucking bastards get?????? The power was cut off just b4 da police started their brutality.........it was just total chaos. These beasts didn't even spare the girls, I even heard some were slapped n kicked...........how dare they even lay their hands on our sisters???!!!!!!
The STR was a scene of total destruction, glasses shattered......drops of blood in the staircase. N the last thing we needed was the media presenting the exact opposite thing to the public!!!!!!!!
The brutalities didn't even stop there. When the students again tried to gather infront of the STR to stop the VC from leaving, they were again baton charged but this time in the main road.
Can't we all rise against these atrocities n fight for what's right, can't we get UNITED??????

Subject: I have a few things to say
Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2009 14:12:58 +0000
I was responsible for devising all BBA and MBA curricula, 100%. This means, in addition to design of courses, i also determined guidelines re. Fees, admission criteria, teaching/learning methodologies. Therefore, i know more than anyone else what nsu can or cannot do. See below:
<ol>
<li>NSU cannot charge anything extra from exsiting students. In the bba curriculum, i made it absolutely clear that existing students would a pay uniform rate/credit (no inflation added) over their entire degree programme.
</li><li>NSU is a private university. But the major issue is that it is a 'foundation'. Thus, its priorities are caught up in a blend of 'tail and shi.'.</li>
<li>Because it is 'foundation', nsu can only try to generate money enough to cover its costs of offering services to students. However, if it needs any extra money, it must get it from the pockets/sources of the trsutees not from the existing students.</li>
<li>If NSU weren't a foundation it could, like all universities in the world, add inflation to fees. But note, an addition to fees can only be considered in the context of inflation and inflation alone not for any other purposes.</li>
<li>Nsu can never charge students extras for purposes such as relocation, i.e., building a new campus.</li>
<li>Any decision is acceptable as long as it is made in unambiguous and complete unison.</li>
<li>I'm more of a guest at nsu now, i cannot possibly ask you what to do. Nonetheless, i may surely 'you may charge any amount so far as you guarantee positive outcomes, such as top-notch education, guaranteed employment and so forth'.</li>
</ol>
Please note further, the present vc has nothing to do with any of these decisions.
May allah bless you with all that you aspire to achieve.

Do you remember what I said soon after your previous 'demonstration'? You said, you had won. I said 'be patient, wait and see, you haven't won at all'. Anyway, good luck.

Look, the VC has a few months left till his retirement. The uni is, in reality, controlled by three people Dr Amirul Islam, GMD and the Proctor (whoever he is). Now you decide who's who. The present VC is just a figurehead and mostly inactive or redundant.
What some students have done today is exactly what the uni wanted.
Take care.

Look, there was a reason why I said you didn't win. There were/are many ways to win. Last time, you were misled into believing that the admin understood your situation and that they were right beside you. They weren't, they never will be. I said, they just bought some time.
You must protest against all this but must ensure that at the end of it all 'you are heard and get your point across with positive, immediate feedback'. A change like this doesn't happen over night. Last time, you stopped too little, too soon. I say it again, there are very effective ways to resolve all this.
Last time, did you ask the authority to announce publicly (in the presence of the media) that they wouldn't increase fees of the existing students, you didn't? There you go. Get things sorted (e.g., what a foundation can/cannot do) before the press conference. I wrote a long letter last time as to what NSU can/cannot do. I'd hope you'd take a look at it once again and resolve this intelligently. You can win provided you use your brains.

So common keep struggle struggle n struggle
destiny will be under ur foot.
On the other hand, NSU authority, with their greediness like many other greedy characters and institution bodies of the country proved that no matter how much classy and stand out a student community be, they have to show their ultimate filthy behaviors on those greedy maniacs to save themselves and make a nice study environment like any other filthy places of the country!!
- Greatly disappointed.
what the MotherFuckers r doing!!! we shud carry on this protest..... not only for the ex-students, who paid for the new campus but not even see that, but also for the new students...
say if u pay for an apartment monthely, then after completion the aparment owns to u, not to the company!!! & here, the university is fully made of each students' money but owned to the FUCKERS!!! also they are showing that they r taking the money from bank as loan!!! so where did the student's money go??? in their belly or i dont want to mention....
brother...i totally disagree with this part. this is wht we protested fr... so we should STRONGLY stick to it.
and this is a very good artcle with the detail info...
they r just a BLOOD SUCKER ...
more over the VC ordered to beat the students & the police just beat the girls in the darkness... how come this is be possibled !!!... i just can't have any language to say this.........
is there anybody who can publish these??
only one daily newspaper is enough...
show all these calculations and corruptions which i mentioned before....
The new tuiton fee hike would mean we pay 3000Tk extra in additiontion to the basic credit fees of 4500Tk for our studio courses. And we have to complete 75 studio credits which is divided into 16 courses. Thats an increase of the fee by almost 28%. That means NSU would be earning 65-70,000 on average from each Architecture Student. A total of (70,000TK * 200 students * 3 semesters =42,000,000Tk) 42 crore just from Architecture department.
In addition, the notice on NSU website says, they havent increased the tuition fees for the last 7 years which is a total lie. I am a final year student(051 batch). During 2005, per credit fees was 3000tk and now they are demanding 4500tk. In 4 years, the fees have increased by 50%!!!
The final year students of NSU Architecture Department is a living talking proof of what big liers NSU authorities are.
There should be an investigation to see how much money was drained out in the name of a non profit organization.
If the proctor has any dignity (i doubt it!) he should resign, well i guess he won't, but how could we live with ourselves, when he remains at NSU after what he did yesterday.
There is a point called.. "Student Activity Fee". It was 1000taka till last semester. which means, 1000*7000 students*3 semesters = 2.1 Crore taka every year. The maximum they give to the Clubs and other student activity like joining 21st feb rally or club fair (the last club fair was in 2006!) was 5.2 million... MAXIMUM. So, if we make a round figure then the foundation saves around 1.5crore taka!! So, if they increase that part... they will get 4.2crore (i am calculating for 7000 students here)!!! It is like WTF!!!! They are not going to increase the fund for clubs, they are take us to filed trips for free... they dont want the clubs to work as well. What happens to this 1.5 crore taka and what will happen to this *NEW* 2.1crore extra money. Cant you just use it for that increased maintenance shit? NSU is not gonna use SPZ, GMQ or BTA or Library in Banani. That saves a lot of money... from rent... is not it? Maintanance may be increased but Expence is not! So, why there is the increase? And specially after they promised us that they are not going to increase any fee just months ago.
What should we learn from it?
Addressed to the NSU students & electronic and print media people but not NSU officials
Approximately 9.10 am: I arrived at the North South University Banami campus, talked with a junior student who was standing 20 yards away from North South University STR building. I don’t know his name but I asked him whether he is from NSU. He replied yes and we were gathered with 7 or 8 students and moved towards a restaurant named ‘Malatilata’. We were staying there just only five minutes, then our university proctor came and ordered us to get out from that place and he closed the gate of that restaurant, saying that no student is allowed to stay there for today. So, we obeyed his order and left that place, just standing in between the road of STR & SPZ, the two buildings of NSU. There were couple of hundreds of students in that time on that road & we were preparing for our protest by calling on cell phone & personally chatting with some other known people. The authority didn’t announced 144, so we were building up a students’ gathering and moved forward towards the STR building of NSU. YET THE PROTEST WAS NON-VIOLENT.
Approximately 9.55 am: we were peacefully protesting in the front of STR building, a written form of our just demands was handed over to the proctor and to some print media people & photographers. After some time some facilities & our proctor came & blamed us that we were aggressive, we again explained to him that we were not doing anything wrong, demanding our just cause peacefully in non-aggressive way. Not a single student shouted any offensive slogan and we didn’t even think about damaging any property. All we demand is a written notice by the VC office ensuring that the unethically increased of tuition fees will not charged for the existing students and NSU authority will not violate the admission contract. YET THE PROTEST WAS NON-VIOLENT.
Approximately 10am to 12.45 pm: we were protesting in front of STR building & want our VC to come & talk with us. But still he didn’t show up. So we organized a rally and left that by-pass road in between the two NSU building, started to walk on the Kemal Ataturk Avenue. After 40 minutes later we came back at the front of STR building and the Kemal Ataturk Avenue was jammed with NSU students. We want to go inside of our own university building where we studied so many years but NSU authority closed the gate and in that time I learned that the NSU officials and faculties were doing there scheduled advising with very few students with that unethical increased amount of tuition fees. We were protesting & during that time our VC came and talked to us for the first time. He already knew our specific written demand which was handed to him 3 hours earlier but he mention nothing about the main cause but order us to leave the road, otherwise he warned us this activity will create a negative reputation for our university as a student but not for him. We demand our main issue and call for opening the gate of STR building so that we can sit at our own university where we live our days and nights, but he refused to do that, left us in this summer weather at the middle of Kemal Ataturk Avenue and went into his office to talk with BOG members through telephone. We were waiting on the road and approximately 1pm two high official police officers came and ordered us to leave that place. We explained them that after organizing a peaceful rally, we don’t need to stay at the road in this summer weather but the NSU authority refused us to enter our own university and quietly doing unethical advising although we the protesting students didn’t even tried to stop a single student who is interested to do his or her advising for the next upcoming semester. After some negotiation, NSU authority obliged to open the gate of our university and we were able to enter inside the STR building for the first time in that day. YET THE PROTEST WAS NON-VIOLENT.
Approximately 1pm to 3.30 pm: we were protesting peacefully at the ground floor of STR, sometime arguing with our proctor, but no violent works had been done by us. We call for our VC to come out from his office which is located on the 14th floor of STR building but he didn’t showed up and we were sitting on the floor of STR’s ground floor, there were at least 500 student inside of that building, sitting on the floor for 3 hours and some two thousand students standing outside of that building, in this summer weather. But still we didn’t have our VC. After half past three, we forcefully start to cross the staircases and moved towards the office of our VC, but we were able to reach the 11th floor of that building and we were again stopped by our proctor. Our proctor said there was a meeting going on regarding this issue and we can’t talk with our VC. We had been hearing about this so called faculty & BOG meeting for 5 hours, but we didn’t hear any outcome of that meeting. YET THE PROTEST WAS NON-VIOLENT.
Approximately 4pm to 5.15 pm: me and couple other guys talked with the proctor and urged him again and again that we need to talk to our VC. But he refused us again and again, so we have no option but to forcefully move to the VC office, so me and some students tried to do that and we all were able to move at the 14th floor just in front of the VC office. All we want is the result of that 5 hour long meeting. After half an hour later our VC came to us for the second time in that day and told that he need two days to decide. We told him why not he decides right away, just he did on the 10 February in this year. He said, two of the BOG members were sick and another two were out of the country, he is not the right authority to decide. We told him, he can call them by phone as all the lines were ok. But he showed his resentful attitude towards us and left us. We were sitting just beside the office of our VC, demanding, protesting. Some time later N-tv crews were came and went into VC office and left us without hearing our say. Again Ekyesa-tv and Digonto-tv came and did the same practice. We were sitting on the floor of VC office; we didn’t want our VC to left us, so we call for our demand to be fulfilled by then. As they already ask for two days, so we demanded a written assurance from VC office that all unethically accomplished advising would be canceled, VC office would issued a written notice where they must mention that they will certainly go back to their previous tuition structure without any campus development fee as we already have an own campus at Bashundhara. We were demanding, shouting slogans peacefully, and sitting on the floor outside the VC office. Some high officials’ police were inside at the VC office and they explained us that they don’t need to stay any longer and waste their time as we were very peaceful and they want to leave that VC office. So we showed them the way to get out and we did this with some other non-NSU officials. May be, and this is my personal opinion, that these security officials left that place with an order issued by the VC office to charged on this non-violent student protest and may be an unwritten oral order issued by the VC office to beat their own students, as they thought themselves to be hostage by their own students. YET THE PROTEST WAS NON-VIOLENT.
Approximately 5.45pm: me and some other guys were sitting just outside the main office of our VC, as they opened the Thai glass gate and for the first time to let some air available for us, we were sitting on the floor of the VC office, chatting & laughing among us, hoping for our upcoming victory. Then we came to know by one of my fellow protestor’s cell phone that armed police were deliberately beating the students without any provocation who where sitting on the ground floor of that building. Then me and two guys tried to build a human chain by blocking the Thai glass gate, as the other students were aggressive and tried to cross the gate and move towards the VC office where all the Deans, Chairmen, faculty members were sitting in an air-conditioned room, feel a comfortable life, when we were protesting for at least 8 hours in an empty stomach, only drink water and walked in this summer weather. Me and other two students tried our best to controlled the mob, we chained ourselves by joining our hands, but the mob was so aggressive to hear the unjust beating by the police to their fellow students that after couple of minutes I asked my department Chairman, that I couldn’t control this any more. He said nothing, and then we all realized it is the time when nothing can be controlled as police were deliberately beating the students at the ground floor and marching forward to the VC office. So I untied my hand and all the students just beside me moved towards the main door of the VC office like a stream. Students went inside the meeting room, took a look through the window, tried to find their fellow students on the ground but we all realized the beating is now going on at the ground floor, so some students were aggressive and took the law in their hands and through some chairs in that meeting room. Me and some other guys tried our best to stop them as we had been doing our non-violent protest and I could tolerate to watch this no longer, the destruction of all our achievements. But I failed. Lights were out and in that terrifying darkness armed police arrived and tried to beat us in front of our highest guardian’s, the VC office, where he locked himself safely in. I rushed to my department Chairman, who was standing right next to the door of VC office, asked him what should we do now. He said, “Fool boy, leave now”. I saw armed police in action in front of VC office, beating the students, when the rest of the faculties locked themselves in that VC office room, when their own students were fighting with police. Aggressive student started to break the glasses and furniture in that place. I saw the destruction of my, our dream of achieving a victory through non-violent protest. I took my last picture of my university, and cowardly left that building. When I was leaving the place I saw glasses were broken at the STR ground floor and signs of students had been beaten by the armed police, here and there. I cried for my failure, our failure to stick to a peaceful protest. And still cowardly get myself out from that place, leaving my fellow protestors, as I can’t control their rage.
Wonder why on earth the creator made the rich people so poor in mentality?
I testy in healthy mental condition that all I narrate above are true to the best of my knowledge.

who are u kidding?and the complete and total audacity to say you care about the female gender.
well I was there too and let me tell you this when I read down the comments on this article I can think only one thing...
WHAT A FUCKING JOKE
(1)It was not non-violent.I wouldn't call broken glass from the door of the VC's office that was used to injure policemen who had to be rushed to the hospital as non-violent.I don't think throwing stones blindly is very non-violent either.
(2)About everyone's concern about girls, not everyone seemed to care as they got pushed around did they?Cause believe me,nobody cared then.
(3)Get your facts straight, students who had done advising were TRAPPED inside STR thanks to the mob on the ground floor(YES it was a mob..and here's the kicker, would you believe it?girls were involved)And I know that very well having been around till 3 p.m.
(4)Students who did want to do their advising?YEA...thanks for the blocked staircase and the yelling and the fear of having our cars crashed, not to mention bodily harm.
I would tell you what you can do with the repeated exclamation of NON-VIOLENT protests but I'm attempting to be ladylike.
I don't support NSU in their unfair actions one bit nor do I respect the admins for the deception they used to cloak their actions but i don't respect those who protested anymore either.
i dont wanna argue... um going to answer your points simply... hope your car won't be smashed by that...
>>>1 :
were you there when the glasses of HIS HIGHNESS's office were being smashed??? do ya know what was goin on there??? you have seen an injured policeman, well have you seen any of the students who r injured more than he was??? or have you seen any of the girls who was beaten, kicked more specificly by YOUR dearest rich feet sucking POLICEMEN??? :)
plus, how do you know that those broken pieces of glasses were used to attack the POLICE ??? how do you know that those are real blood ??? did you see a flow of blood, or you just saw some spots on his white t shirt under his uniform??? if he was injured by glasses, then why only his under garment was wet by blood, not the uniform??? did you even see scratches on his uniform which may be caused by the broken glasses???
do you really know who started the violence??? do you think that if we were really violent then a huge amount of students as we were, only injure a police guy, n no1 else???
"I don’t think throwing stones blindly is very non-violent either."
that;s what you said... well do you know where it happened ??? outside the building... because there were no substances like stone or anything that breaks that kind of thick glasses of STR building ( you know, right? )... & lastly when this throwing had started??? for your kind information, there are more witnesses than you can imagine, right after the POLICE broke the glasses of gate to enter, & started to beat your clasmates... you can go & ask people who were actualllllly there, who did not at 3 pm...
>>>2 :
sorry I don't blv you... we do care & we care... that's why we raised our voice & stand up together... not all the people are sick like that & not all the people state things that they have never actuallly seen... were you there when a guy of NSU protestors was taking every charges made by you dearest polices to save one our sisters ??? you were not there I guess...
>>>3 :
you said mob, right ? we wanted to talk to our VC... we wanted to go to his office... but there was a big but between his office n us... n this but was none other than your proctor, the drunken master who even doesn't know what proctoring is ( well, he knows 1 thing, thats what we heard better than anything, EMpTYING BOTTTLEEESSS, do i have to mention what bottles ?)...
anyway, we wanted to go up, but the drunken master did not allow us to do... rather he blocked the stairs... i repeat, he blocked the stairs... when a path is blocked, then its not blocked 4 a particular side... its blocked both ways... so heres the thing you were blocked by the Proctor of NSU... & we did block anyone...
>>>4 :
no wonder why you are not in a public varsity... if you were, your car would be smashed by now... but these people were not violent actually... it was the proctor who was provoking the protestors to behave like that...
anyway it was a waste of time answering you... It is easy to type bullshitz sitting in a air conditioned room... but it is hard to feel these things unless you are in our shoes...

copied the following from facebook:
Tomorrow ( 12th May, Tuesday @ 10:00 AM) Press Conference in Press club complaining about the brutal police attack. Every NSUer, please bring your parents(must) there and a placard(write as your thought) if you can.
check this out friends... we are getting supports from other universities, even from IBA students...
I'm really shocked by this randsome of NSU authority.Im fully agree with the writer that Baridhara Campus of NSU is made by the paymeny of all the students who have come accross in any course of NSU including past and present. So, u just cant do the business just saying we are going to the new campus which is 14.5 lacs squarefeet and we need need huge amount of money to maintain.Stop making joke on yourself...........
I hope and pray to ALLAH that he would give the rational intelligence to NSU authority to think about the whole thing again.
NSU authority must remember that ALLah will not tolerate any outrageous people......He drowned the Feraun........He demolished the BRitish Colony,,,,,,,,,He punished Hitler........and Now He is giving the treatment to USA.......So, before ALLAH sancition the punishment just wake up and ask Forgiveness to Allah......
May Allah Bless All Of Us...........
He should be much responsible in his acts as a VC of the most prestigious private university.
Bitting and giving to tear gas to our children is a most coward
job you could ever do. This is not DU or any other govt. universities. This is NSU. This has owned its prestige not only by the admins but also by the families who sent their beloved kids to you. You have created the worst example in NSU life.
Please be united and keep on protesting.
I have completed my degree from NSU on last Spring Semester, but I don't know why they charged me for Campus Development Fee for my 48 credits ! ! ! What about ETHICS ( mouthful words ) that we learned in the Business Administration course ! ! !
It is simple - NSU is taking the advantage of Monopoly business that the nation also experienced with CityCell strategy ( Tk. 120K for a mobile phone !!! Haaah haah haa - you see, that GENTLEMAN is in JAIL now....Almighty God is fair with His ETHICS !!!!!!!)
Can we make soem non-violent protest? I suggest th followings;
1.Establish 10th May as a memorial day. This will be done by students and unofficially until NSU recognize the mistake they made and ask for forgiveness (not only decrease the price)
2. we ahve architects right? Why dont we make a monument, a mobile monument of sorts. It will reflect the greedy admin, VC, Chairman. This monuement will be brought on every 10th day of the month and people will just spit there. They can also donate 1/ 2 takas as vikhas as a sumbolic protest to their greeds.
3. Make basdges and wear it all through the next semster. The badge may be the monument, message etc
What do you say?
I think , you are wrong bro, the above statement is not true as I was studying NSU then and per credit was 4000 tk, dont try to deceive people , please dont write one sided story...
plz keep your eyes on the tv screens...
check news bulletins for updates...
we are getting closer to get JUSTICE...
we need you all to know that we are doing nothing wrong...
& that's why we NEED YOUR SUPPORT...
>>> RAISE YOUR VOICE >>> STAND UNITED >>> AGAINST INJUSTICE...

My heart bled as I heard they beat up some of the girls. This is shameful. Don't these NSU people have children? I'm ashamed to be part of NSU teaching community.

Could anyone get hold of the Private University Act (1992, amended 1998)? I have a copy. But I want you to have a copy and discuss its contents with a lawyer, if you really are concerned about the fees that is. Ask your parents to become involved. I'd be right with you out there. Noone knows better how to handle this. What you don't know is that my contribution to NSU is much greater than that of all trustees or teachers.
But you must be sincere about this and not lose your head under any circumstance.

This is s quote from a particularly powerful Dept Director at our university. Although its a couple of years old.
'We need 8 students per class to break even for that class'. Calculate = Profits from the rest 25 students
